World Press Photo winners announced

The winners of the World Press Photos of the Year award were announced today. Anthony Suau won the top honor with this photo from his story about home foreclosures in Cleveland.

Sadly though, as Gawker points out, he is currently seeking employment. Other winners include (ICP instructor) Jonathan Torgovnik, Pep Bonet, Chen Qinggan, and Walter Astrada, among many others.

As per usual (in my ever-so-humble opinion), some were fantastic, some were groundbreaking, some were “meh,” and a few were “and this is here…why?”. My personal “you’ve got to be fucking kidding me” moment is Roger Cremers’ story on people visiting the memorial at Auschwitz-Birkenau fitting into the “Arts and Entertainment” category. Altogether though, a very interesting collection of images that can be seen here as I’m sure my highly copyright infringing photo up top will be removed any second now. Enjoy!
