World Press Photo winners announced
Published February 14, 2009 Uncategorized 1 CommentTags: Anthony Suau, awards, losers, winners, World Press
The winners of the World Press Photos of the Year award were announced today. Anthony Suau won the top honor with this photo from his story about home foreclosures in Cleveland.

Sadly though, as Gawker points out, he is currently seeking employment. Other winners include (ICP instructor) Jonathan Torgovnik, Pep Bonet, Chen Qinggan, and Walter Astrada, among many others.
As per usual (in my ever-so-humble opinion), some were fantastic, some were groundbreaking, some were “meh,” and a few were “and this is here…why?”. My personal “you’ve got to be fucking kidding me” moment is Roger Cremers’ story on people visiting the memorial at Auschwitz-Birkenau fitting into the “Arts and Entertainment” category. Altogether though, a very interesting collection of images that can be seen here as I’m sure my highly copyright infringing photo up top will be removed any second now. Enjoy!

Radio Lab
Radiolab is a radio program broadcast on public radio stations in the United States. Hosted by Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich, each hour-long show focuses on a topic of a scientific and philosophical nature, through stories, interviews, and thought experiments. The show attempts to approach broad, difficult topics such as “time” and “morality” in an accessible and light-hearted manner. Its audio production style is distinctive, often using rapid edits to construct an expository conversation. The credits are generally read by people who were interviewed or featured on the show, rather than by the hosts.
Radiolab is produced by WNYC, a public radio station in New York City. The show is nationally syndicated, and is also available as a podcast.
Transom
Transom.org is an experiment in channeling new work and voices to public radio through the Internet, for discussing that work, and encouraging more.

Everyone election pictures look truly amazing, it’s great to see that night from every angle and perspective. I found this article today, and the multimedia photo essay that accompianies it, and thought I would share it with all of you. It’s a very simple human interest story, but a touching one, and impeccably executed. The article is here (you should read it first), and the multimedia piece is here. Enjoy.
